Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Policy
Procedure in the event of employee injury:
- First aid is administered by either the first aid officer, doctor, supervisor or a co-worker.
- The employee either takes themselves to the doctor/ Emergency Department, a co-worker takes them, or an ambulance is called. This is determined by the extent of the injury.
- Correct documentation is completed by any witnesses, the first aid officer or supervisor.
- Assessment is performed by the medical personnel, and a medical certificate is issued.
Then...
- The employee returns to work- the medical certificate is given to the supervisor, any further documentation filled in.
OR
- The employee remains off work- the medical certificate is sent to the supervisor.
- The employee takes time to recover and when able, returns to work. They may return to their original work or, if unable to because of injury, be retained for other work, offered a different job, come back to work part time and build up the hours, or be paid out of all their entitlements and leave the job.
- An employee has up to 12 months after an accident or injury to submit a claim for workers’ compensation.
